Association for Quality (CAQ) was founded on August 31, 1979,
under the jurisdiction of the State-owned Assets Supervision and
Administration Commission (SASAC). CAQ is a nationwide organization
for quality under the leadership of SASAC and the General Administration
of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. Mr. Chen Bangzhu,
member of the Standing Committee of CPPCC National Committee,
acts as the president of CAQ, and Ms. Ma Lin as the Legal Representative
of the association. During the years, CAQ was bestowed a series
of honorary titles including “Advanced Association for 2001—2005”
by China Association for Science and Technology in 1997, “Advanced
Industry Association for 2002” by the former State Economy and
Trade Commission in 2002, and “Advanced National Nov-governmental
Organization ” by the MCA of P. R. China in 2004.
During the 26 years after its foundation, CAQ
has received recognition and favorable remarks from the government,
companies, and all social sectors by effectively conducting a
great deal of work in various areas such as spreading knowledge
and technologies on quality management, organizing QC circle activities,
spreading and implementingGB/T19000—ISO9000, 14000,18000 series
standards,providing consultancy and certification services, promoting
Customer Satisfaction (CS) projects, guiding corporations towards
the goal of quality efficiency with brand name strategies, encouraging
businesses to seek quality operation excellence by bringing in
performance excellence model, furthering academic research and
exchange on quality, and increasing the publication of quality-related
books and magazines.
CAQ undertakes a broad range of core businesses,
including membership development, international exchange, quality
promotion, services delivery in consultancy, assessment, certification,
and training for quality. In addition, CAQ organizes diverse national
programs such as China Quality Award Assessing, China CS Project
Recognition, China Quality Forum, Prize for China Quality Technology
Progress, QC Circle Activities, Quality Knowledge Spreading, China
Quality Month and National Promotion of Six Sigma Management.
CAQ has 19 sub-associations in sectors of metallurgy,
light industry, textile, petroleum, post and telecom, science
and technology, software, and over one thousand organizational
members including Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., Haier Corporation,
Lenovo Group, China FAW Group Corporation, Yankuang Group Co.
Ltd., Shanghai Mitsubishi Electric Co., Ltd., Qingdao Port Bureau,
Wuliangye Group Co., Ltd. and Intel Products (Shanghai) Ltd. Under
the advocating of CAQ, quality associations were established for
different industries in all parts of the country, forming a national
network.
AQ has forged close relationship
through cooperation with international quality organizations such
as American Society for Quality (ASQ), Union of Japanese Scientists
and Engineers (JUSE),European Organization for Quality (EOQ),
Korean Standards Association (KSA), and Hong Kong Productivity
Coucil (HKPC), as well as famous domestic higher-education institutions
such as Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsighua University, and People’s
University of China.
