Quality Function Deployment (QFD) was originally invented in Japan in the 1970s and was developed and improved in the developed countries of Europe and America in the 1980s. Now, QFD is applied in a variety of product manufacturing, software deployment and service management industries.

With the prevalence of development of six sigma management, QFD gained the interest of more and more enterprises. QFD is a key tool for practicing DEMAIC and DFSS, improving customer satisfaction and obtaining competitive advantage.

International Council for Quality Function Deployment (ICQFD) was founded in 1997 and the vision of ICQFD is to promote QFD concept and the updated research achievements. The first International Symposium on Quality Function Deployment (ISQFD) was held in Tokyo in 1995. Since then, ISQFD had been successfully held in the United States, Sweden, Australia, Brazil, Germany, Mexico and Turkey. ISQFD is one of the most important quality events in the world and it is the first time for ISQFD to come to China. The 14th ISQFD will be held in Beijing Jiuhua Spa&Resort from September 25 to 26, 2008.

ISQFD’08-Beijing has been supported by Department of Quality Management, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of People’s Republic of China. Dr. Yoji Akao, who is the founder of QFD and a world famous expert on quality management and Mr. Glenn Mazur, who is the Executive Director will give keynote speech in ISQFD’08-Beijing. Nearly 40 QFD experts, researchers and practitioners will make presentations and share experiences in the symposium.
